7 Prom Dresses worthy of the red carpet

Award season has come and gone, but there’s plenty we can learn from some of the biggest stars on the red carpet this year. From two piece gowns to ruffles galore, pinks and reds to the chicest black, the red carpet is the perfect place to start your prom dress mood boards.

We’ve picked out our favourite 2022 red carpet looks and show how you can recreate the look at your prom for a night that’s truly to be remembered.

Pretty in Pink

Lily James stunned on the red carpet at the Oscars in March with her pale pink Versace dress. It had everything trending at the moment with a throwback to 90s slinky, spaghetti strap dresses and a subtle but statement-making ruffle.

If you’re looking to recreate this jaw-dropping moment at your next prom, go for these embroidered pink gowns. Let the sequins and embroidery do all of the talking and pair with simple accessories. Even a choker-style necklace like Lily James wore is a great shout to draw the eye to the neckline.

We also recommend a high ponytail for a sleek look, perfect for a summer prom when the sun is shining.

Satin and sleek

Satin is the most in demand fabric at the moment and thanks to Pantone’s Colour of the Year, purples are also just as sought after. Actresses like Jessica Chastain and Demi Singleton graced this year’s Academy Awards in beautiful lilac dresses, a light and romantic purple hue.

In homage to both the structure of Jessica’s dress and a nod to Demi’s gorgeous lilac, we love the gown below for a soft feminine silhouette and a dress that just glides on the dance floor.

Lilac Satin Bridesmaid Maxi Dress

For another kind of soft and neutral look in stunning satin, we’re obsessed with this cream wrap dress in a maxi length – perfect for a sophisticated prom look when paired with a nude heel.

Back in black

Black is a classic for a reason: it’s elegant, alluring, and flattering on everyone. It’s a staple hue on the red carpet from the reason and everyone from Billie Eilish to Vanessa Hudges and Rachel Zegler wore black at some point on the red carpet this season.

For a red-carpet-worthy black dress look, we love this black one shoulder maxi dress, with a mesh cut-out (an ode to Rachel Zegler’s own mesh look). Pair with silver hoop earrings and a matte makeup look, and you’ll absolutely make an entrance. We also love the asymmetric ruffle bodycon dress, a less all-encompassing ruffle look compared to Billie but with the same flair. It’s also perfect for a night of dancing.

Paint the town red

Eye-catching, classic, flattering and eternally stylish – there’s a reason the red carpet is red! Scarlet dresses are perfect for summer proms and will make sure you stand out in the crowd. Regal red looks were worn all over this season’s award ceremonies – by everyone from Oscar-nominated Kirsten Dunst to model and musician Charlotte Lawrence at the Grammys.

To stand out in red (and to bring the 💃 emoji to life), we love these red prom dresses that are ideal for summer events and go perfectly with your dancing shoes.

Prom dress shopping can be overwhelming as you want to find the look that will be top of the class. But remember that comfort and ability to move should also be top considerations–you’ll want to be out dancing with your mates after all! If these dresses aren’t fully up to your taste, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect dress to say yes to with our varied selection. Get shopping before it’s too late!
