How to Build Autumn Outfits: Colour, Layers & Separates
Cherry, navy and soft pink: simple outfit formulas that make current Little Mistress separates work harder.

A useful wardrobe is one where pieces have more than one way to be worn. Start with a colour you enjoy, add a complementary texture, then change the shoes or layer to suit the plans in your diary.
Start with a colour pairing
Cherry and black make an easy evening combination; navy and dusty pink feel softer. You do not need every shade to match exactly. Repeat one colour in a shoe or bag if you want the outfit to feel connected.
Try cherry with a change of texture
Odette’s cherry waistcoat and Marisol’s cherry satin maxi skirt bring structured and fluid shapes together. Try the waistcoat over a simple shirt for more coverage, or wear it as styled on its product page if that suits your plans.
Check the waistcoat at the bust when fastened and the skirt at both waist and hips. A coordinated outfit can still need different sizes in the top and bottom.
Give knitwear a polished finish
Mireille’s dusty pink jumper works as a soft contrast to Giselle’s navy velvet trousers. Keep the footwear simple. If you tuck knitwear in, use only enough fabric to shape the waist without creating bulk beneath the waistband.
Let a coat bring the look together
Katya’s camel trench coat adds structure over a dress or separates. Try it with the sleeves and layers you will actually wear underneath. A coat needs to feel comfortable through the shoulders when you reach forward, not only when standing still.

Move from daytime to evening with one change
Swap an everyday bag for a smaller one, change into a polished shoe, or add earrings. You do not need to rebuild the whole outfit. Fallon’s navy knitted midaxi dress is another starting point: choose layers and accessories around the neckline and close-fitting shape.
Buy for the combinations you will wear
Before adding a piece, think of two outfits you can make with clothes you already own. Check fabric, fit and care information, then use your measurements to choose a size. The most useful new piece is one you feel comfortable wearing again.
